Maths Fest 2019 has now happened! Register interest for 2020 here.
Maths Fest is an all-day extravaganza for sixth-form students (and maths-keen KS4) to celebrate and be inspired by mathematics.

Hand-crafted by stand-up mathematician Matt Parker and maths author Rob Eastaway, Maths Fest is coming back in 2020 to excite students and provide free coffee for teachers.

Maths Fest 2020 will feature some of the best maths speakers in the world talking about their favourite bits of maths, and will celebrate maths as an exciting, useful and rewarding subject.

Maths content: Maths Fest runs every year and the talk content is organised such that students can attend for three consecutive years and not see the same talks.

Speakers: Speakers for Maths Fest 2020 are yet to be confirmed. The speakers for 2019 were:

  • Rob Eastaway: Best-selling Maths Author
  • Hannah Fry: TV star & UCL Maths Lecturer
  • James Grime: Internet Maths Phenomenon
  • David Acheson: Guitar-playing Maths Author
  • Matt Parker: Stand-up Mathematician
  • Ben Sparks: Mathematician and Musician
  • Vicky Neale: Maths Lecturer excited about primes

Booklet and exam skills: Maths Fest is deliberately designed to reinforce normal school lessons. The goal is to return your students to you motivated to study for their maths courses at school. As well as the puzzle and programme booklet that students are normally given, for 2020 we are going to have a new focus on revision and exam techniques.

Maths Slam: As in previous years, we will once again run the Maths Slam where students will be able to represent their school and present a maths concept from the stage in under three minutes.

Teachers: Maths Fest is also a day for maths teachers. Teachers are welcome to join speakers for coffee at lunchtime (as long as students are still being supervised!). Students also have a chance to chat to speakers and there will be calculator and book signings.  Maths Fest is free for any maths teacher to attend, even if they do not bring any students. We can provide a CPD sheet to show SLT.
